WHEN IT COMES TO THE CRUNCH – WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

Your best friend (or someone you are dating) has surprised you by buying tickets to a live entertainment show. As the show starts, you become uncomfortable because you find the entertainment offensive. However, the person who paid for your tickets is clearly enjoying the entertainment a great deal. You decide to wait and see if the tone of the entertainment changes, but it only becomes more and more offensive to you. You friend just seems to be smiling and laughing more and more.

What is THE CARAMEL CRUNCH? Well, it’s all about decisions. When it comes to THE CRUNCH what would you do?

If you know anything about CRUSHED CARAMEL, you will probably realize I am a gentle soul, so my questions are not supposed to be terrifying! What I am hoping for really is to see a variety of responses. Afterall, it’s pretty obvious that WordPress bloggers are from a huge variety of backgrounds and cultures. It would be fascinating to learn more about how we as individuals make decisions.

Some of the questions I am going to ask are questions I have discussed with friends when we have been having coffee or dinner. I often find there is no clear right or wrong. It can be so much a matter of our individual experiences and outlook. I find it fascinating how very different some of us are when it comes to decision making.

We all have different outlooks, and may make different decisions. I am really looking forward to learning WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

  1. This is going to be an awkward conversation but I guess I’d have to be honest. I’d be grateful too for the gift of the tickets and encourage them to stay and watch if they wanted to. I think if this person was my best friend they’d probably realise it wasn’t going to be my cup of tea. If it was someone I was dating and didn’t already know well then they might as well know what my taste is – all part of getting to know each other.

  2. This happens to me a lot, since I find most comedy offensive. And it isn’t because I don’t have a sense of humor ~ I totally do! But it seems like “the thing” these days is to self-mock one’s OWN race or ethnicity and thus all sorts of racism becomes acceptable. Like it can’t be antisemitic if I’m making fun of my own family, right? WRONG.

    Anyway, I sometimes leave, but even if I don’t I make my feelings clear. This happened last month. I spoke up afterwards to the group I went with ~ we all paid for our own tickets, but one of the group had suggested the performance. I left at intermission and had no problem telling him afterwards I thought the comic was entirely obnoxious.

    1. The comedian we went to see had some good humour and some that was really distasteful. I wish I could have escaped. I was sat in the worst seat in the club for a quick escape. I would have had to climb over the row in front and onto the stage and then climbed over the shoulders of about twenty packed rows.

      So I had to sit and endure it til the end.

  3. Make an excuse and get out of there. A headache ( would probably have one anyway because of the offensive content)or a forgotten assignment that has to be submitted.

    1. I prefer to have a choice. Surprises usually backfire.
      I don;t know if I wrote about the terrifying time we took some lovely ladies in their 70s / 80s to see Sing-Along-The Sound Of Music…
      …the audience were awful. It ruined the film.

  6. I think I would excuse myself to the bathroom and wait in the lobby for the thing to be over. Then I would thank them and tell them how I felt on the ride home. I wouldn’t make a scene or big deal out of it. While I waited, I’d be on my phone reading blogs. 😊

    1. I have done that with the cinema when we were teenagers.
      Since the internet came along, it is easier to check out what a film will contain before going and realizing there is something appalling in a film.
