Jim Adams aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: SONGS FROM ARTISTS WHO HAVE FAMOUS MUSICIAN PARENTS

There was only every going to be one song choice for today. Before the Pandemic began, not long after Jack and I started going out, we had the chance to see a performance from Mabel. And proving ourselves proper golden oldies, we were super excited because of who her Mum is…
Do you know who Mabel’s Mum is?
Well…I popped a video from Mabel’s Mum down at the bottom of this post. You may recognize this very popular singer.
There is of course another reason I chose this song from Mabel. I just left a role that became…what was the word Annette? Oh yes, “dehumanizing”. So, this seemed like a great song to respond to that situation…”Don’t Call Me Up”.
When I'm underneath the bright lights When I'm tryna have a good time 'Cause I'm good now you ain't mine Naw, naw, naw, naw, don't call me up When you're looking at my photos Getting hot, losing control You want me more now I let go Naw, naw, naw, naw I'm over you and I don't need your lies no more 'Cause the truth is, without you, boy, I'm stronger And I know you said that I changed with my cold heart But it was your game that left scars Ooh, I'm over you Don't call me up I'm going out tonight Feeling good now you're outta my life Don't wanna talk about us Gotta leave it behind One drink and you're outta my mind Now, now take it up Baby, I'm on a high You're alone, going out of your mind When I'm here up in the club And I don't wanna talk So don't call me up 'Cause I'm here looking fine, babe And I got eyes looking my way And everybody's on my vibe, babe Naw, naw, naw, naw, don't call me up My friends said you were a bad man I should have listened to them back then And now you're tryna hit me up again Naw, naw, naw, naw I'm over you and I don't need your lies no more 'Cause the truth is, without you, boy, I'm stronger And I know you said that I changed with my cold heart But it was your game that left scars Ooh, I'm over you Don't call me up I'm going out tonight Feeling good now you're outta my life Don't wanna talk about us Gotta leave it behind One drink and you're outta my mind Now, now take it up Baby, I'm on a high You're alone, going out of your mind When I'm here up in the club And I don't wanna talk So don't call me up Don't call me up So don't call me up Don't call me up I'm over you and I don't need your lies no more 'Cause the truth is, without you, boy, I'm stronger And I know you said that I changed with my cold heart But it was your game that left scars Ooh, I'm over you Don't call me up I'm going out tonight Feeling good now you're outta my life Don't wanna talk about us Gotta leave it behind One drink and you're outta my mind Now, now take it up Baby, I'm on a high You're alone, going out of your mind When I'm here up in the club And I don't wanna talk So don't call me up Written by: Camille Angelina Purcell, Mabel McVey, and Steve Mac
I like that song actually, more through the tune than the lyrics. Thanks for the article đŸ™‚

I do agree – I think the tune and production make it a class pop song. The lyrics did not appeal to me at first, but when you very occasionally in a situation when the lyrics become acutely appropriate – these songs are a wonderful stress relief!!!

Yes they can become relatable can’t they ? đŸ™‚

They help you to laugh the situation off, and sometimes that is what you need to put it all behind you and move on. Like that song “Shake If Off” – it is such a fantastic stress-buster.

Definitely, shaking off is quite a good analogy for removing that thing which seems to just stick to you mentally đŸ™‚

I have to admit Willow – Jack and I were so super excited about Mabel purely because of her being Neneh’s daughter. It may be hard for a musician who becomes well-known on account of their parent’s success, but at the same time for some of us golden oldies, that is what makes us stop and listen to their music – respect for their mum or dad.

Yes true and it does no harm does it đŸ’œ

Nice music Mel and I think this song would fit in with a Ballywood movie. I did not know Neneh Cherry or any of her music, but I just listened to 7 Seconds and I liked that.

I’m so out of touch, this was new to me. And her daughter, wow do I feel ancient.
