Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: I/ME/THEM/US/YOU/WE.
The song I have chosen reminded me of a barney Jack and I had last month. It was so silly, and it was my fault. Goldfinch wanted a photo of me in my gorgeous dress. I asked Jack to take one. Jack was more than happy to. He wanted to post a couple of them on his Instagram account. But I didn’t want to see the photos. I have a huge problem with seeing photos of myself. It crushes my confidence. I ended up in a huge sulk. Jack told me I was being daft. I was inconsolable. Jack gave up in the end and went to bed. I felt so foolish.
Jack loves me for being me. He doesn’t understand why I get so upset over seeing photos of myself. It is completely beyond reason. I have this insanely irrational reaction. I just can’t bear seeing myself on screen or in photos. It really upsets me. I don’t have the same reaction with mirrors. Without a camera present, I am full of confidence and joy. But I literally hate what the camera shows. I just crumble into an emotional wreck!
Jack said he loves me and thinks I am gorgeous (he’s a keeper!) and he does not understand my aversion to seeing myself in pictures or videos. Poor Goldfinch had to wait a long time to get a photo of me.
Perhaps this is an overtly obvious choice of song for this week’s theme. Jack tells me it was a big hit last year. I hear it all the time in shopping malls. Not that I am often in shopping malls, but when I am in that kind of environment, there is a lot of Taylor Swift playing on the tannoy system.
I quite like this song. It has a happy quality about it. I like happy music. Not all the time. I’d go bonkers listening to this kind of stuff on a loop. But this video pops cheer and colour and sass. We all need a little of those in our life at times – do we not?
So here you go then, my obvious choice for today’s theme is called “Me!” and is brought to us by Taylor Swift and someone I have not heard of Brendan Urie. Jack knows who he is. Jack is the pop expert.
Jack has a lot of suggestions for today. There must be thousands of songs that will qualify. But only if he comes up with a phenomenal song, will I post one from Jack.
I promise that you’ll never find another like me
I know that I’m a handful baby, uh
I know I never think before I jump
And you’re the kind of guy the ladies want
(And there’s a lot of cool chicks out there)
I know that I went psycho on the phone
I never leave well enough alone
And trouble’s gonna follow where I go
(And there’s a lot of cool chicks out there)
But one of these things is not like the others
Like a rainbow with all of the colors
Baby doll, when it comes to a lover
I promise that you’ll never find another like me-e-e-eh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
I’m the only one of me
Baby, that’s the fun of me-e-eh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You’re the only one of you
Baby, that’s the fun of you
And I promise that nobody’s gonna love you like me-e-e-eh
I know I tend to make it about me
I know you never get just what you see
But I will never bore you, baby
(And there’s a lot of lame guys out there)
And when we had that fight out in the rain
You ran after me and called my name
I never want to see you walk away
(And there’s a lot of lame guys out there)
‘Cause one of these things is not like the others
Living in winter, I am your summer
Baby doll, when it comes to a lover
I promise that you’ll never find another like me-e-e-eh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
I’m the only one of me
Let me keep you company-e-e-eh
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You’re the only one of you
Baby, that’s the fun of you
And I promise that nobody’s gonna love you like me-e-e-eh
[Single version:
Hey, kids
Spelling is fun]
Girl, there ain’t no “I” in “team”
But you know there is a “me”
Strike the band up 1, 2, 3
I promise that you’ll never find another like me
Girl, there ain’t no “I” in “team”
But you know there is a “me”
And you can’t spell “awesome” without “me”
I promise that you’ll never find another like me-e-e-eh
Yeah, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
(And I won’t stop, baby)
I’m the only one of me
(I’m the only one of me)
Baby, that’s the fun of me-e-e-eh
(Baby, that’s the fun of me)
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You’re the only one of you
Baby, that’s the fun of you
And I promise that nobody’s gonna love you like me-e-e-eh
Girl, there ain’t no “I” in “team”
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
But you know there is a “me”
I’m the only one of me
Baby, that’s the fun of me-e-e-eh
Strike the band up 1, 2, 3
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
You can’t spell “awesome” without “me”
You’re the only one of you
Baby, that’s the fun of you
And I promise that nobody’s gonna love you like me-e-e-eh
I knew somebody that did not like to have her picture taken, sadly she is gone now and there is not much around to remember her by. Nice song Mel.

I don’t have many photos of people. But I have a very clear picture of them in my head and heart, one that flatters them a little.

It’s a great pop track isn’t it. It seemed a bit obvious to pick it because it seems to be played all the time in public here in London.

I love the idea of “there are a lot of cool chicks out there, but you’re never going to find one quite like me!”
I will have to remember to tell Jack that when I am getting on his nerves!

I’m glad to find someone else who hates seeing herself in photos as much as I do!

Mirrors are nice to me, photographs and video are cruel!!!
But I know what counts…being a lovely person on the inside! People are attracted to others because of the qualities they display. Or as one of my friends said, it’s the way a person makes you feel that makes them fond of you. So I remember that when make sure I am kind and lovely to others…they will see me and find me attractive. It’s not my shape they care about. It’s the way I make them feel.
I just try to dodge the camera whenever I can 🙂

“Mirrors are nice to me, photographs and video are cruel!!!” – same with me! And I prefer to be behind the camera than infront of it.
Agreed – I try to be beautiful on the inside to make up for the outside.
