River

All I see is River

Crashing on it’s crazy course

Ever onwards, on forever

With such fervour, with such force

But there is sun…there is moon

Verdant meadow, windswept dune

Shimmering dusk, starlit sky

Scented forests, mountain high

Ravaged hilltops, rugged moor

Rain-bowed flowers, trees galore

Dazzling deserts, sweetest breeze

Frosted lakes, majestic screes

Hear the music, nature sings

Sunsets tremble, daybreak rings

Hum of life, whisper of shore

Lullaby ocean, mighty roar

But all I hear…is River

Crashing on its crazy course

Ever onwards, on forever

With such fury, with such force

So, to God I raise my prayer

Help me notice they are there

Before my spirit starts to wither

Slow down the course of this crazed River

River

  1. I wrote this poem almost twenty years ago…I have tweaked the middle bit a few times. The middle bit is supposed to be like a river twisting and rushing on it’s course. Many friends have read it and as they know I really struggle with poetry, they have encouraged me not to give up on it.

I guess I knew I was going too fast…I was caught up with my goals, rushing along oblivious to those around me. I didn’t set out to be deliberately selfish, but I was becoming wrapped up in my own little world and unable to recognize the value of those around me…often their greatness.
I don’t think I even saw the beauty of nature around me at that age. I was too busy trying to achieve. My head always in books…I was forgetting to breathe all the wonderful things about life, nature – from the skies and mountains to the waves and flowers.
I am glad I was patiently taught a lesson by others that everybody has something superior to you. Life is beautiful because there are so many different people all with something unique to share. And if you are too busy to enjoy creation…well frankly you are too busy…you need to change.

      1. Why thank you!
I am very fond of this poem…however, it is very rare for me to be able to produce a poem, I love writing, but most of my writing is more like a letter to a friend.

    1. Thank you Makafui. I am not vey good at poetry, but this is the one poem I have been pleased with. I wrote it in my late teens and have shown it to friends who were interested in poetry. I never received much good feedback…but I have always been very fond of it because it was such a personal expression of how I felt back then.

      1. You’re welcome. I like poetry, but I won’t say I’m good at it. I tend to focus much more on content than structure. Your explanation in the comment made it much clearer. It really gets the intended message across.

        1. Hi Makafui. Would you be happy if I nominated you for the three day three quote challenge. I have been nominated. For the next three days I have three posts to publish inspired by quotes that have influenced me. The challenge states that you have to nominate three other bloggers for the challenge each day – nine in total. I have nominated three bloggers in my first post which I am about to publish. Could I nominate you on Day Two? Would you be happy for me to do that?

          1. Oh, sorry but that might not be a good idea. I wouldn’t be able to honour the nomination, since I barely manage to post once a week, but that’s the routine I can work with. I really appreciate the gesture though.

            1. Don’t you worry…that is why i thought I would check before I publish your nomination. Or there is so time limit on the challenge as far as I know. If you wanted to use the three day three quote challenge for future inspiration…and then when you have time publish three of the quotes that have inspired you. Hey there is no pressure. It is just a nice way to keep supporting fellow bloggers and to inspire each other.

      1. You are NOT pathetic. Poetry is a realm which is a product of its creator. Which means the heart and soul of the person writing is transparent. Those who make a competition of it are slightly narcissistic in thinking their judgement is gospel. With poetry we gravitate to those who we feel echo how we feel. It is a wonderful medium and there is an audience for everyone who puts pen to paper to write.

    1. Long list! Too true…I need to re-design my site at some point to make it easier to navigate.
When I first started blogging, I just wanted to get myself into a routine of writing and then I decided I would try to use formatting and pictures to make each post easier to to enjoy. It’s all very much a work in progress.
Thank you for your support Chiru.

It did come from my heart…it was one of the first times I managed to express something very deep inside me and I was so relieved to get it out onto paper.

I am very poor with poetry, but I wrote this poem twenty years ago and it meant a lot to me…I have tweaked the middle section a few times, but the introduction and conclusion are just as I originally thought and felt all those years ago when I was around 16 years of age.

  4. Hey,

I’m working on my debut poetry book.

I am preparing a mailing list. Would you like me to add your e-mail address please? If so, can you share it with me?

I don’t plan to do it like hard core promotion, I will just inform you when it’s available and when there is some huge fluctuation in price (sale etc.), as on WordPress reader posts get lost in stampede.

That wouldn’t be more than 5 to 6 times a year, max.

Won’t bother you with unnecessary e-mails, promise!

    Thank you 🙂

    1. Good morning 🙂
I saw your post yesterday. I don’t check my e-mails for the account I use for my WP account. But I will be looking out for your posts to tell us when your book is ready to buy.
Will it be available on Amazon?

      1. I like how you prayed for God to help you hear more. We all could do this more in life so it is such a nice reminder. God bless you!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind comment Antonia 🙂
This poem means so much to me. I wrote it when I was a teenager (although I have tweaked the middle section a couple of times, the beginning and end have always been the same) and it expressed how I was feeling back then. I was really glad to be able to get what was in my heart out onto a page and in the form of a poem.

    1. ❤ Thank you ❤

That poem means a lot to me.
I was amazed that I managed to express some of my deepest anxieties in a poetic way. I was so rubbish at poetry at school.

I really struggle with poetry. But this one is very special to me. I wrote it in my late teens! It expressed so perfectly how I was feeling back then. I amazed myself that I found a way to express myself like that.
But that poem has been very special to me all these years.
Thank you fro your kindness ❤
