I Keep Trying To Find My Way

perfect memory.jpgJim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: LOST/FOUND/HIDE/SEEK

Music stirs memories…I think I meant to say that last week in my post about the song that is special to Jack and I. Well…this week I am going to share other memories…those that I dwelt on all summer after my wonderful trip to Australia.

As soon as I saw today’s theme, I thought of a hundred songs!!! Don’t worry, I am not going to post one hundred songs, although I do have a second song in mind that I might publish later, depending on whether anyone else features it.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABut to start my Sunday on a wonderful note, I have chosen, not the first song I thought of, not my favourite song, but a song that has a memory that I want to share with you today. One of my favourite memories in fact from my trip to Australia this past summer (Australia’s winter).

I think I mentioned that when I was in Australia, I would look through the CDs that Goldfinch has – he has a lot of music! – and when he asked me what I liked the look of I would reply “oh I am still looking for your Kylie Minogue CDs”. And he would give me that cute look…you know the “am I going to have to put you over my knee?” look!!! I’ll stop there!

dgAnyway, one day, he came home with a new CD, which he said he picked out thinking of me. He loaded the disc into his stereo and took my hands to dance with me – aaaaah sigh! We did dance quite a lot together while I was out there. Such wonderful happy memories.

As soon as he started to play the music, the voice seemed familiar, although I did not know the first track. It was “Innocent Eyes”, an album from Delta Goodrem. I confess I did not know anything about her. But Goldfinch duly informed me that she is Australian. I looked at the songs on the back and immediately saw that Track Number 5 “Lost Without You” was a song I had listened to over and over after Goldfinch left England to return to Australia. The lyrics so perfectly expressed just how I felt trying to live life without Goldfinch. Aaaaaah sigh!

goldfinch and moi.gifWell…we danced together for a few of her songs…but I was particularly enlivened by Track 5, and swung around him singing the words of the chorus straight to him, hoping he understood that the song was obviously written about me and the way I feel for him!

When looking for a video…I found a full-length American version which sounds quite different from the one that was in the charts here in the UK. The top video is a short section of the song the way I am used to hearing it. But the American version is almost as good.

I know I can be a little stubborn sometimes
You might say a little righteous and too proud
I just want to find a way to compromise
Cos I believe that we can work things out

I thought I had all the answers never giving in
But baby since you’ve gone I admit that I was wrong

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How am I going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do …I’m
lost without you
I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you

How am I ever gonna get rid of these blues
Baby I’m so lonely all the time
Everywhere I go I get so confused
You’re the only thing that’s on my mind

Oh my beds so cold at night and I miss you more each day
Only you can make it right no I’m not too proud to say

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How am I going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do …I’m
lost without you
I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you

If I could only hold you now and make the pain just go away
Can’t stop the tears from running down my face
Oh

All I know is I’m lost without you I’m not gonna lie
How am I going to be strong without you I need you by my side
If we ever say we’ll never be together and we ended with goodbye don’t know what I’d do …I’m
lost without you
I keep trying to find my way but all I know is I’m lost without you
I keep trying to face the day I’m lost without you

Sit Down Next To Me

seatedJim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: LEAN/SIT/STAND

Yet again, Jim has chosen a fabulous theme, one for which there are a long long list of songs…fantastic songs. I have already featured one of the most special songs in my life. But I have been thinking about a second song all day, wondering if anyone else would choose it. There is another blogger who seems to have a very similar taste in music to me, and I reckoned this would be the song he would choose, so I told myself to wait and see. But he has featured something else.

However, both wonderful Willow and amazing Angie Trafford did feature the second song I found was on my mind all week. So, I am not going to add this to the SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY parade on Jim’s post. But for anyone who does not yet head straight to Jim’s site each Sunday to check out the amazing mix of songs that are featured, I am going to publish this post anyway, as it includes a little trip down memory lane!

i was shyI wanted to feature this song for two reasons. Firstly because I have my own personal memory in connection with it. It was the very first “disco” I went to as a little girl. I was so nervous. I hardly knew any of the other kids. I stood near the back in the dark dancing. But I remember this song being played. I don’t think I had ever heard it before. But I remember that during the chorus words of “Sit down, sit, down, sit down” etc, everyone in the room sat down on the floor. Then we stand up again to bop through the verse. Then the chorus came and we all sat down on the floor again! At such a young age…I thought it was great fun!

all along.jpgMy second reason for wanting to feature it is simply that this is a song that everybody seems to love. As I grew older the lyrics became more meaningful and moving. I have been at so many parties and live shows where it was covered, and have chanted along with a huge group of people who love love love this song. I love it when a song starts and everyone cheers because it’s such a big favourite. This song is one of those HALL OF FAME tracks that everyone knows the words to, well at least, it is in England. But I read that when it was first released, it reached Number 77 in the charts. So after a bit of tinkering, it was re-released a couple of years later and became a huge hit.

jam.jpgThe song is of course “Sit Down”, from a great band named James. If you search online you will find many other brilliant versions of this song. I love to hear it covered by choirs and orchestras. It has been used for many a charity fundraiser, including a memorable effort with comedian Peter Kay. There is something very emotive and endearing about the lyrics.

But there may be a reason to believe that it is also known elsewhere. I read that it was used for the promo for Game Of Thrones. So I have attacked the promo I found online to the end of the post so that you can relive the show, if you are a GOT enthusiast.

I’ll sing myself to sleep
A song from the darkest hour
Secrets I can’t keep
Inside of the day
Swing from high to deep
Extremes of sweet and sour
Hope that God exists
I hope I pray

Drawn by the undertow
My life is out of control
I believe this wave will bear my weight
So let it flow

Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Now I’m relieved to hear
That you’ve been to some far out places
It’s hard to carry on
When you feel all alone
Now I’ve swung back down again
It’s worse than it was before
If I hadn’t seen such riches
I could live with being poor

Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Those who feel the breath of sadness
Sit down next to me
Those who find they’re touched by madness
Sit down next to me
Those who find themselves ridiculous
Sit down next to me
Love, in fear, in hate, in tears

Down
Down

Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Oh sit down
Sit down next to me
Sit down, down, down, down, down
In sympathy

Down

Just As Long As You Stand By Me

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: LEAN/SIT/STAND

stand by meUh-oh…as soon as I saw this theme, I knew I was going to find it really hard to choose which song to feature, when so many great songs came to mind.

However, there is one song that has to be at the very top of my list. In fact if Jack thought I had picked any other song for today, I might be in trouble! This special song is “Stand By Me” by the wonderful Ben E. King.

He and I have “a song”! One night we danced together (this was before the estrangement took root). My friend Suzie said that everyone stopped to watch us. People had been talking about us for some time. All I remember is seeing him. It is a memory which confused me for a long time afterwards.

robins and annie handsSo…one of the songs on his sixties playlist is that same song. Within the past couple of weeks, he played that playlist, and I think around the third tune was “our song” … easily distinguishable from the first few seconds. I gazed into Jack’s eyes and he smiled. We do a lot of playing with each other’s hands at the moment. Anyway, I asked him if he remembered.

performing.pngHe thought he was talking about when he sang it live a few months after that night when we danced. I don’t think he realized that by then, I was regularly being told by some people that Jack couldn’t stand me and wished we were not flatmates. He was blissfully unaware that I was tormented when he was singing that song. He thought I would understand why he had chosen that song.

Anyway…I am determined nobody is going to ruin things between us this time. It is “our song” (perhaps lots of other couples would say the same) and when I hear it I think of him. I love Jack. I believe that I always did, even when I thought he hated me. I intend to stand by him, come what may.

I find it hard to listen to a cover of “Stand By Me”…my feelings are that nobody should touch it. Ben E. King is the the King of this song. No covers needed – ever!

When the night has come
And the land is dark
And the moon is the only light we’ll see
No, I won’t be afraid
Oh, I won’t be afraid
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

So darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand, stand by me
Stand by me

If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountain should crumble to the sea
I won’t cry, I won’t cry
No, I won’t shed a tear
Just as long as you stand
Stand by me

And darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me

Darlin’, darlin’
Stand by me, oh, stand by me
Oh, stand now, stand by me
Stand by me
Whenever you’re in trouble, won’t you stand by me?
Oh, stand by me
Won’t you stand now?
Oh, stand, stand by me

Slowly Shifting Gently Drifting

gently driftingOoooops! scheduled my SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY post almost a month ago (although I did add a few bits since I first chose the song), and I didn’t see until after I had published it that Jim was going to feature it. Well, I guess it won’t be the first time we have doubled up on songs.

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: DRIFTER/LONER/VAGABOND

Well, this was the other song I mentioned I had thought of, although I have been worried it is a bit too niche. I liked the band Menswear back in the Britpop era. Again, it was the guitars. I was such a sucker for guitars! I had an album and saw them play live. This track “Daydreamer”, was probably my favourite song from their album “Nuisance”. It’s been a very long time since I listened to any of their music. I have no idea what happened to those boys.

mens.jpg

Still the word drifter sent my mind back in time to this song. Not my cup of tea nowadays. It may or may not be your cup of tea. But I guess that is what SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY is all about hey! So, we will give it a spin and then put it to rest for another twenty years shall we?

Slowly shifting, gently drifting
In your arms, I’m quietly breathing
Silent dreaming, thinking, yearning
Hoping for a better journey
Understanding what I’m planning
You’re so blind you flounder drowning

Moving closer, floating over
Sinking into seas of colour
Feeling lighter, darker, brighter
Consciousness begins to falter
Holding you I start to wonder
Pull you out or drag you under

Breathe deeper…… daydreamer

Slowly shifting, gently drifting
In your arms, I’m quietly breathing
Silent dreaming, thinking, yearning
Hoping for a better journey
Understanding what I’m planning
You’re so blind you flounder drowning

Breathe deeper…… daydreamer

Moving closer, floating over
Sinking into seas of colour
Feeling lighter, darker, brighter
Consciousness begins to falter
Holding you I start to wonder
Pull you out or drag you under

Two Drifters Off To See The World

ah1.jpgJim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: DRIFTER/LONER/VAGABOND

Sometimes a song comes straight to my mind when I see the SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY theme, and I tell myself everyone will have thought of exactly the same song. So I try to pick a different song. And then nobody else picks the original song I thought of. I have had the same dilemma today. The song I am featuring, I suspect we all thought of straight away. How many of us will end up choosing it as our SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY post? Well, we will have to wait and see!

ah.jpgI did have another song up my sleeve – but it is kind of a weird song. I do not know what you will make of it. Might be a bit too niche for SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY. So I have gone for the classic, inspirational, heart rending, delightful and dulcet tones of the wonderful Audrey Hepburn, singing the gorgeous “Moon River”. Deep sigh!

Next time I am with him…you know who…I shall ask if we can watch “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” together soon – that would make a great date night! It’s nice dating someone you used to live with. It’s so weird that I used to clean up after him, wash his dishes, pick his underpants up off the floor…and now here we are together, “dating”.

Listening to the lyrics of “Moon River”, I thought about him and I…off to see the world, there’s such a lot of world to see!

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me

Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way

Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after that same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me

Get On The Bus And Cause No Fuss

bus.jpgJim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: BUS/TRUCK/LORRY

I listened to lots of songs with the word bus in the title or the lyrics, but I didn’t warm to many of them. I had a list of five I liked in the end, but one stood out to me, so this is my choice. You will be relieved that there is only one song from me in today’s SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY. I am in Wales. “Somebody” drove me up to the Midlands on Friday evening and we stayed over night before I caught the train. All because we are keeping things very quiet at the moment. I would love for my family to know. They are going to be amazed.

back thenLast month I chose a song by the same band I am featuring today. In my post I mentioned that the band became a big influence on a whole generation of men. Their music is still loved by many a middle aged bloke. The song I have chosen today is another one of the songs that won Oasis huge popularity, and in some ways laid the foundation of the attitude that would breed amongst many at the time.

what.jpgI think I mentioned in my last post, I grew tired of the attitude quickly. I guess it can all be summed up in one word “Whatever”. I dread to think how many times a day I muttered that word to my parents and teachers when I went through my brief miserable teenager stage!

Anyway, this was a song me and my friends sang over and over. It mentions bus, which is why it is my pick for today’s SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY.

I’m free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I’ll sing the blues if I want

I’m free to say whatever I
Whatever I like
If it’s wrong or right it’s alright

Always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long’s it gonna be
Before we get on the bus
And cause no fuss
Get a grip on yourself
It don’t cost much

Free to be whatever you
Whatever you say
If it comes my way it’s alright

You’re free to be wherever you
Wherever you please
You can shoot the breeze if you want

It always seems to me
You only see what people want you to see
How long’s it gonna be
Before we get on the bus
And cause no fuss
Get a grip on yourself
It don’t cost much

I’m free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I’ll sing the blues if I want

Here in my mind
You know you might find
Something that you
You thought you once knew
But now it’s all gone
And you know it’s no fun
Yeah I know it’s no fun
Oh I know it’s no fun

I’m free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I’ll sing the blues if I want

I’m free to be whatever I
Whatever I choose
And I’ll sing the blues if I want

Whatever you do
Whatever you say
Yeah I know it’s alright

Whatever you do
Whatever you say
Yeah I know it’s alright

I’ll Take The Train

unrestrainable.jpgIt’s been all steam ahead today! I spent the afternoon showing a certain someone the posts from other bloggers in today’s SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY. He loved it!!! Oh my goodness. It is impossible to restrain him!

I was absolutely adamant that he is not allowed to create a WordPress account just so he can like and comment on all the other SONG-LYRIC-POSTS. I am super scared of how indiscreet he has always been with social media. He is such a kid with his phone!

We had lots of fun this weekend. It’s really good. A month ago, I could never have imagined it. Life is so crackers sometimes isn’t it!!!

I have been waiting to see all of the songs featured by everyone who takes part today.  I had yet another song choice up my sleeve. But I wanted to wait to see if it had been featured by anyone else. Well…it doesn’t look like it so far. So I am going for it! I am not going to post a fourth though. That really would be too much!

the actHe and me had a dance together to this song earlier today, “Cuanto Le Gusta” from the iconic Carmen Miranda. Did I ever tell you about how I had to tour performing this song with three other women? It was a charity thing! We were very popular. Thank goodness he doesn’t have the video from that act…yet! I would not put him past it to seek it out. I still have the fruity hat we had made! I have two versions for you to enjoy, neither of which am I in!

As I am sure you all know by now, Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: TRAIN SONGS…and I didn’t want to leave this one out! Sunday nights should always finish with a little party- don’t you think!!

Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
We gotta get goin’, where are we goin’, what are we gonna do?
We’re on our way to somewhere, the three of us and you
What’ll we see there, who will be there, what’ll be the big surprise?
There may be caballeros with dark and flashing eyes
We’re on our way (we’re on our way)
Pack up your pack (pack up your pack)
And if we stay (and if we stay)
We won’t come back (we won’t come back)
How can we go, we haven’t got a dime?
But we’re goin’ and we’re gonna have a happy time
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Now someone said they’d just come back from somewhere
A friend of mine that I don’t even know
He said there’s lots of fun if we can get there
If that’s the case, that’s the place, the place we want to go
We gotta get goin’, where we’re goin’, what are we gonna do?
We’re on our way to somewhere, the three of us and you
What’ll we see there, who will be there, what’ll be the big surprise?
There may be caballeros with dark and flashing eyes
I’ll take the train (I’ll take the train)
You take a boat (well I take the boat)
I’ll take a plane (I’ll take the plane)
You ride the goat (well I ride the goat)
Oh, we don’t care, we’ll either walk or climb
But we’ll get there and we’re gonna have a happy time
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Someone said he just came back from somewhere
And picked a few petunias in the snow
He told me that it’s very close to nowhere
If that’s the case, that’s the place, the place we want to go
We gotta get goin’, where we’re goin’, what are we gonna see?
We’re off to see somebody who’s on his way to me
Gonna go my way, you go your way, wanna make a little bet?
We’ll all meet in the country, they haven’t found us yet
We’re on our way (we’re on our way)
Pack up your pack (pack up your pack)
And if we stay (and if we stay)
We won’t come back (we won’t come back)
How can we go, we haven’t got a dime?
But we’re goin’ and we’re gonna have a happy time
Yes, we’re goin’ and we’re gonna have a happy, happy, happy, happy, happy
Cuanto la gusta, la gusta, la gusta
Yes, we’re gonna have a happy time
