Talesfromthemindofkristian Has Nominated Me For The “One Day With A Star” Challenge

Well…my brain is so jam-packed with images of cake, I decided to start this week with a re-blog of one of my posts from last summer. It took me ages to complete this post – you might see how much effort was involved in putting it together when you see the format. But it was fun!

I have been nominated for a challenge by talesfromthemindofkristian  talesfromthemindofkristian as you can see in his post below:

https://talesfromthemindofkristian.wordpress.com/2018/07/06/one-day-with-a-star-that-sad-day-a-short-story/

He has tagged me in this challenge: One Day with a Star.  I have not see this challenge before.  I believe it is the creation of   raynotbradbury. Have a look over her post explaining the challenge:

‘One day with a star’ Challenge

karaoke

The rules are:

  1. Describe a very famous person (preferably historical, or well known – to everyone!). Include the details in your story so people can guess who is that STAR, but do not mention the real name.
  2. You can add 1 photo-detail (non obligatory).
  3. The style and the genre of the writing – any.
  4. Pingback to this post  (not to the page!), so I can read and comment.
  5. Spread the word around, up to 3 – 5 blogs. Have fun!
  6. The followers should guess in the comments who is ‘your star’.

SO HERE IS MY STORY – PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR A BIT OF HOPELESSLY LIGHT-HEARTED POPCORN CANDY-FLOSS FICTION – I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT THIS.  BUT IT MAKES A CHANGE.

Caramel was rather lost after the pressure she had buckled under from her ex-flatmate’s behaviour.  She wished she could speak with him and ask him what went wrong. “Didn’t we almost have it all?”  she wondered to herself.  She vowed to herself that she would never love another and whispered into the night to him, “You’re still my man, my love is your love and I’m saving all my love for you?”

Night after night Caramel wept herself to sleep. broken she tearfully asked herself: “Why does it hurt so bad?”

queen of the night.jpgAll at once, the door was flung open and a mysterious figure appeared in the room.  Caramel had never seen her before and was bewildered by both the stranger appearing and the stranger’s appearance.

“Why are you so emotional Caramel?” the stranger asked, “Don’t cry anymore! Dry your tears and get yourself dressed – we are going out to dance!”

“Who are you?” gasped Caramel astounded by the outfit the stranger was wearing.

Whatchulookinat? Why! I am the Queen of the NightI heard you were kind of blue and decided to myself I’m gunna call you tonight.  But then, I looked in my business diary and saw I had the evening free.  Although I don’t often make home calls, I know you are worth it…so here I’m knockin’ on your door.  And tonight I am going to help you to get your mojo back on!  Believe me honey you really need to get it back!”

Shaking her head, Caramel replied, “It’s impossible.  I can’t go out, I have nothing to wear”.

dressHold on.  Help is on the way!” declared the mysterious stranger.  Rooting through her wardrobe the stranger pulled out a dress she saw and threw it towards Caramel telling her to put that on while she found some matching shoes.

A little shy in front of the stranger, Caramel went into her bathroom explaining, “I want to try it on my own.”  Once Caramel had the dress on, the stranger looked at her and nodded in approval saying, “It’s not right but it’s okay“.

“I don’t think I can do this,” cried Caramel.  “I’m not ready to go out and face people after everything that has happened.”

“Don’t tell me no after I came here on my evening off!  Certainly it’s possible.  When you believe in yourself, you can face anyone, the whole world.  You will be fine Caramel…relax! Step by step we will get you back to being you!”

Comforted by the stranger, Caramel smiled, “How will I know if I am ready to fall in love again?”

The stranger shrugged her shoulders, “I ain’t no fairy god-mother!  Look Caramel, the greatest love of all is loving your Creator (somebody bigger than you or I), loving yourself, loving your family and friends and loving life. When you start smiling again then a lovely guy might see, fall for you and woman cryingthen run to you!  But that ain’t gonna happen while you are feeling sorry for yourself!”

Where do broken hearts go Susan?”

My name is not Susan It isn’t , it wasn’t, it ain’t never gonna be” snapped the stranger.  “I know there ain’t no Heartbreak Hotel.”

“Oh I am sorry, you just remind me so much of one of my workmates.  She is the only one I know who could get away with wearing an outfit like that.  What is your name, I still don’t know who you really are Queen of the Night?”

If I told you that, I’d have to kill you! You don’t need to know my name, just know that I’m every woman and I look out for women who have had their hearts broken and give them a bit of a helping hand!  Wait up a moment, I think my phone is ringing…uh no…it’s just the lonely talking again that I hear”

Caramel thanked her.  Poor Caramel, all dressed up but still no smile.  The stranger sighed, “My love, I guess it might take a while with you and a lot more than a helping hand, perhaps you need a miracle.  That’s fine.  You can count on me.  So come on kiddo the moment of truth has arrived, are you going to tell me about him, the one that did this to you?  Who do you love?”

love heart“He…he….well, I know him so well, and, well…he is all the man that I need and although things have gone terribly wrong, well, I just know for certain that I was made to love him!”

The stranger smiled and gave Caramel a hug.  “It’ll be okay Caramel.  You will love again girlie!  No doubt about it!  I believe in you and me.  We are going to get you back on your dancing feet.  I got you.  You can’t be so emotional without having a heart full of love.  You are going to be just fine!  Never give up.  He was one man, that was all but one moment in time.  You will always hold him dear, but you are a woman who thrives on love and you will love again.  Love will save the day.”dancing.jpg

“Thank you, I will be thinking about all the things you say.  Maybe, I didn’t know my own strength.  I don’t believe there is really someone for me, a lover for life, someone who will take good care of my heart.  Well, I don’t know if I am really ready for love again quite yet…but I will obey you and go out tonight.  Oh yes!  Not because I want to go out and find someone else to fall in love with, but just because I do know for sure that I wanna dance with somebody.  I am kind of excited now to know where you are taking me.”

“That’s it Caramel.  Do you hear what I hear?  There’s music in you alright.  Now let’s go out and celebrate I go to the Rock club every third Friday of the month.  Let your hair down and dance on tables unashamed!  We’ll be dancin’ on the smooth edge of the stage!  I know the DJ personally, I’ll ask them to play a song for you.   You are takin’ a chance, you’ll never regret.  After tonight, I’ll be thinking about you.  And I will keep on checking in on you until you come back to being your old self…or even better, a new you, full of joy and with a smile to break hearts!  I look to you to show your true voice. Remember, you’ll never stand alone!  Let’s go!!!”

Belle’s Questions For Her Nominees

What makes you the happiest about your blog?

Well…there came a point when I started to feel that this blog could be something special for my family to enjoy at a later date. I would like it to be a gift to my family at a later date. Even though, they do not yet know anything about it, thinking of my family as my target audience has been the governing influence on my posts for some time now. It makes me very happy to think of them reading in the future and deriving some comfort and enjoyment out of silly things I have written.

When I first started this site, I was not sure whether anyone at all would look at my posts,  I was frankly amazed by the response. The lovely comments and interaction with other bloggers has been an unexpected bonus. However, I think I would have run out of steam some time ago if it wasn’t for the change in my motive to continue writing and creating posts.

I have had problems ever since I received head injuries over three years ago and even this year I have been rushed through accident and emergency a few times due to some of my more worrying symptoms. There came a point when I was struck by the thought that it would be really nice for my family to be able to have this site if anything happens to me. My family know I have been writing stories in my free time, but they don’t know about this site yet. I am not sure when and how I am going to introduce it to them, but I want it to be there for them so that at any time in the future they can look at posts and I don’t know, I guess draw some enjoyment from them.

What is your all time top goal?

I used to have a goal. It was to become a full-time international volunteer. I reached that goal eight years ago. It took over thirteen years of disciplining myself and sticking to a demanding schedule and living on a pittance. It was like climbing Mount Everest. But I made it…I was one of a very small number of single women who have ever been invited to take up a post like the one I was.

However three years ago, I was the victim of a crime that caused me serious physical injuries and emotional trauma. I had to take almost a year out to recover. For the past two and a half years I have been back in London and working, trying to rebuild my stamina and strength. I would love to return to my life, my home, my career as an international volunteer. It feels like a long way off though.

Sometimes my ultimate goal of returning to my career and life, seems so far off. Even though sometimes I feel dispirited and despondent about whether I will ever make it back where I belong…I still believe that having that as a goal is a huge protection to me. It prevents me from setting my sights on worthless, meaningless, shallow goals in this money orientated, me-first, world.

I aspire to giving everything I have to build a world that is as beautiful as it should be!

What is one thing on your bucket list?

I don’t have a bucket list for myself really. Staying alive is the main focus now, and making each day count.

I would love to live to see the human family living in harmony with this beautiful planet and other creatures. I would love to see tears of sorrow wiped away from people’s eyes and heavy hearts, and instead tears of joy and merry hearted, happy, healthy people who are truly at peace in every possible sense of the word!

Where would you suggest someone go visit?

Ooooh – it depends how long for and whether you are a townie or a country bumpkin.

If it is for a weekend and you want to see everything a city offers and see gorgeous historical buildings and eat in charming cafes, then I tell my mates here in London to pop over to Bruges in Belgium. Lovely for a weekend getaway.

If it is just for the day…I recommend Eskdale in the Lake District – head to Wastwater and climb Skafell Pike or Great Gable.

I love Eskdale…many camping trips and a lot of fell-walking with friends and family for many years.

I don’t know why I thought it would be good for a day trip…spend a whole weekend there.

What do you think would make a difference to this world?

I have read a lot about why there is so much trouble in the world, from many sources. I agree with those who point to the need for a huge change of rulership. I don’t think humans are capable of governing themselves. We are not designed to be independent. It is like small children telling their parents they don’t need them or their rules.

Every conceivable form of government has been tried. Monarchies, dictatorships, autocracy, democracy, communism, capitalism, liberalism, republicanism…it’s all been tried. Our history books may well serve as a lesson learnt for the entire universe in millenniums to come, a judicial statute in a way.

Current governments provide a degree of stability – a framework of law and justice and other provisions which benefit us, but we need help. Too many short-term decisions have been made that have put wealth and power first and have sacrificed quality of life for many humans and have damaged our planet and it’s environment. There is a lot of damage that needs to be repaired.

Although there may have been some genuine, well-motivated politicians with integrity (yes – some of them) they are limited…either because the legal framework limits the duration of their term in office, or because they are ousted by a political rival, or fall victim to sickness or old age. Plus some of those who they work closely with may not be trustworthy. There are many reasons why human rulership fails to satisfy mankind’s basic needs. It’s time to end the chapters on humans dominating each other.

This planet has an abundance of everything we need. It is being mismanaged.

I would love to see a world government supervising and educating all humans to care for this earth properly. A rulership that does not allow monopolies and extreme economic situations. To me, every millionaire probably means more are being deprived of the basics. Millionaires, billionaires are not a success. They are a sign that this economic system is a failure. We need rulers who care nothing for money and wealth, but are genuinely motivated by wanting the very best for this planet and all it’s creatures. A world that values every man and woman and child no matter where they are born.

What is a hobby you wish you had more time to enjoy?

Swimming!

My sisters and I were competitive swimmers for years.  I love swimming.  Being in a pool feels wonderful to me…peace, calm, happy place…and then as I swim up and down for an hour or two I feel adrenaline and power rushing through my limbs.

I am finding it hard with my current schedule to go regularly though, at least once a week. I do wish I had more time for swimming.

What is your favourite song right now?

My favourite song change on a daily basis! But right now…I have been singing this all day:

What would you like others to know about you?

Erm…

I am very grateful. I know I don’t own many things and I have very little money. But I feel immensely wealthy. My life is very rich.

…I have a very very wonderful family who gave me a brilliant start in life. I have been trying to make decisions and develop habits that would make them proud and show appreciation for all they taught me.

Have you ever written a book? What is the name of that book if so?

I have not written a book myself. However I have proof-read and assisted in editing an auto-biography for a celebrity.

I have written thousands of letters, e-mails and pages in journals that could fill books.

I filled six journals full of detail about what was going on in the lives of me and my friends for a very close friend of ours who was intensely ill for six months. We thought we were going to lose her. When she came round and her health recovered, I gave her the journals I had kept with her in mind. They were full of photos and pictures and detailed accounts of what had been happening. It was a big help to me at the time to keep my mind positive. But when she received them and read them, she was blown away by what I had done. She told me years later how much she treasured them.

I have been writing a special book for my niece since she was born. She is far too young fr me to think about giving it to her yet. She would probably tear it to shreds! It is very much a token of love and special thought for her. It will be a special day when I can give it to her. I shall go and take a picture so you can see what I have been up to!

The book is mainly full of pictures and a little writing. There are lots of pictures of animals, fish, birds and of Wales. There are family photos. There are lots of pictures off my niece too. It is something I can work on when I am really missing my family and I look forward to the day when she is old enough to have a book that has been inspired by her without trying to crumple the pages or eat it!

What is one thing that would make you happy right now?

Goldfinch! I miss him 😦

I want him here with me! I wished I could have taken him to Wales to meet my wonderful family.

However, months ago I realized that it is better for Goldfinch to be without the burden of worrying about me being rushed to hospital on a regular basis. I have said my goodbye and can accept that I had a very wonderful year with him. Now my future happiness is hearing from him that everything is going well for him, that he is happy.

List 5 things you love:

Only five? There are so many things I love…in no particular order here are five of five million things that I love:

  • PEOPLE – especially my family and friends and Goldfinch!
  • THIS PLANET – meadows, mountains, rivers, beaches, lakes, waterfalls, forests
  • MUSIC
  • FOOD
  • ANIMALS – frogs, whales, horses, giraffes, bunny rabbits, butterflies, little lambs

I would like very much for my family to be able to look back and be absolutely sure that I have lacked nothing at all! They taught me pretty much everything I needed for life. Their demonstrating their love by being joyful, hard-working, fun-loving, kind, generous, faithful, reliable, consistent, balanced and wonderful examples is an immensely valuable inheritance.

Favourite song….ooooooh that is incredibly difficult. If you have read other posts of mine, you probably have an idea how diverse my music tastes are. But there is a song, which I loved back in the days I worked for the record company and still love because I think the lyrics are clever. spent the whole of Sunday

sticking you together…”

Nominated For The Blogger Recognition Award By Isaiah46Ministries

I have been nominated for a lovely award: The Blogger Recognition Award by Douglas and Regina the creators of isaiah46ministries   isaiah46ministries, as you can see from their post below:

https://isaiah46ministries.com/2018/09/04/blogger-recognition-award/

I have been enjoying their posts for some time…but I thought I would read Isaiah Chapter 46 today as I was wondering why they had chosen to include this chapter in their site name.  I found some very beautiful expressions:

“You whom I have supported from birth and carried from the womb. Until you grow old I will be the same; Until your hair is gray I will keep bearing you. As I have done, I will carry you and bear you and rescue you.”

That is so gorgeous…and for many, I am sure those words will be deeply meaningful as although they were originally addressed to a nation, they speak to a person who invests in building a friendship with their Creator.  I am sure that Douglas and Regina and many other bloggers allow their faith to illuminate their life.

I know not all bloggers have the same beliefs, indeed we are a very multi-cultural, multi-ethnic bunch with different minds and hearts, but there certainly are some very beautiful posts and sites out there inspired by great faith and love.  It is a wonderful thing when a blogger or writer takes deep sentiments from their heart and expresses them in a way that others find inspiring and captivating.

I also read these thrilling words:

From the beginning I foretell the outcome, And from long ago the things that have not yet been done. I say, ‘My decision will stand, And I will do whatever I please.’

I love these words…because people are alarmed at world affairs today, alarmed at who has been entrusted with authority, alarmed at the state of the oceans and the air we breathe, alarmed at the disregard for the human suffering and the scale of injustice and abuse, that are frankly disturbing.  But to know the Creator states, He will not be stopped, nobody and nothing in the universe can prevent Him from accomplishing His original purpose for this earth and for humans.  To me, there is an amazing sense of power and purpose in those words that is comforting in this incredibly upside down, inside out world.

It is an amazing chapter to read, both touching and comforting and it also imparts huge confidence and optimism. I can see why Douglas and Regina chose to include it in the name of their site.

Thank you Douglas and Regina for including me in your list of nominees for this award.

Just in case you don’t know, my website is:

I have been publishing posts about incidents in my life, mostly very happy ones, lots of wonderful memories with my family and friends, lots of lessons learnt as a child, at work and in relationships.  The “crushed” part of Crushed Caramel refers to a challenging situation which crushed her and led to a very regrettable incident from which Caramel is still recovering physically and emotionally.

The rules of the award:

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.

2. Write a post to show your award.

3. Give a brief story of how your blog started.

4. Give two pieces of advice to new bloggers.

5. Select 15 or more bloggers for the award.

6. Let each nominee know that you’ve nominated them and leave a link to your post.

A brief story on how this blog started:

love letterWell it all started with this:

He told me he was captivated by by letters!

He suggested I start a blog.  “What’s a blog?” said I.

And here we are…a long time has passed since then, but I am following his suggestion and I am enjoying it more than I ever imagined.

Two pieces of advice for new bloggers:

need each other.jpgYou need other bloggers!

Other bloggers need you!

In other words, read and support other bloggers posts. They will appreciate it!  You will find yourself very grateful for their support and encouragement.

Get involved with writing prompts and challenges. Contribute your personality, your writing skills and your supportive spirit and enjoy everything that other bloggers bring to the table.

Try to have a little contribution to make daily, schedule anything from fifteen minutes or whatever you can allow, just so that you keep yourself in the minds of other bloggers or readers.  Little and often helps with any relationship!

This is going to have to stay between you an me though alright…no blabbing about this one!  I am trusting you!

There is a video of me out there (my brother-in-law’s mother has it) that I am very worried about.

I am wearing a Tina Turner dress – just like the one she is wearing in this photo…I have a Tina Turner wig on…and I am up on the stage belting out “River Deep Mountain High” at the top of my voice – with an audience cheering me on.

There had been quite a cacophany of performances that night…I mean ouch!!!  Then, while I was sitting patiently waiting for my turn, I suddenly realized I could not give any half-hearted lack-lustre performance…I was going to have to summon all my courage for my moment in the limelight.

The crowd really goes wild when I start trying to do the Tuna Turner strut…and I was shimmy-ing and shaking (not in a sensual manner…more like someone with red ants in their pants) so that all the fringes on that dress were flying around.  I caused quite a stir and yes…I did win that particular contest on the night.  However, the video footage of moi performing without inhibitions (no alcohol was involved, this is just me in front of a microphone on a stage!) makes me feel anything but a winner.  I have been trying to get hold of that video to dispose of it for years, but short of breaking into my brother-in-law’s parents home one night, I don’t know how I am ever going to convince them that it would be in everyone’s best interests for that video to vanish permanently!

Why am I telling you all this?…

…because I have been nominated for….

The Three Day Lyrical Challenge

…by none other than talesfromthemindofkristian  talesfromthemindofkristian  who has already established himself as a man of superb musical taste as you can see from his post below:

The Rules:

1 Thank the person who nominated you.
2 Share one of your favourite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
3 Nominate three other bloggers each day.

So this challenge is going to be great fun…I am not sure what my next two songs are going to be quite yet…but I am working on it…I am not just going to pick my favourites, I am going to give you songs with a little story attached!

When I was a little girl
I had a rag doll
Only doll I’ve ever owned
Now I love you just the way I loved that rag doll
But only now my love has grown

And it gets stronger, in every way
And it gets deeper, let me say
And it gets higher, day by day

And do I love you my oh my
Yeh river deep mountain high
If I lost you would I cry
Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby

When you were a young boy
Did you have a puppy
That always followed you around
Well I’m gonna be as faithful as that puppy
No I’ll never let you down

Cause it grows stronger, like a river flows
And it gets bigger baby, and heaven knows
And it gets sweeter baby, as it grows

And do I love you my oh my
Yeh River Deep, Mountain High
If I lost you would I cry
Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby

If I lost you would I cry
Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby

I love you baby like a flower loves the spring
And I love you baby just like Tina loves to sing
And I love you baby like a school boy loves his pet
And I love you baby, river deep mountain high

Oh yeah you’ve gotta believe me
River Deep, Mountain High
Do I love you my oh my, oh baby
River Deep, Mountain High
If I lost you would I cry
Oh how I love you baby, baby, baby, baby

And….my nomination for this challenge…is:

How my Blog Started:

love letterStuart, from Croydon, was the one who made me take the plunge.  There is a story there, but I am not willing to share it. He is someone who helped me out through a rough time.  Let’s just say Stuart is someone I care for a lot, and I really hope he knows that.  No…there will not be a post about Stuart. Yet in a funny way, I would like him to know I am still inspired by him.

That might not sound very interesting to you without any details! Let me pad it out a bit.  I have been writing very long letters and e-mails to friends for years. So I am well into the habit of writing long waffling accounts of my gallivanting up and down the country on various projects, and including all the lurid details of what I ate for lunch and relating an array of emotions I had along the journey.

Due to circumstances, Stuart and I started to keep in touch more and he encouraged me. I wrote page after page.  He was kind and said he looked forward to coming home from work and catching up with my long e-mails.

Stuart said: “YOU SHOULD START A BLOG”.  I thought that was like mum telling me to go and try out for some television singing competition and stand in front of Simon Cowell. In addition, I did not really know what a blog was. I had not seen them for myself.  I thought it was a glorified version of Instagram.  I had never used Facebook or Twitter or all the social media networks.

I also thought it a bit odd to write something strangers would read.  All my letters and e-mails have been to friends and family I know and love. So it was easy to know what to talk about, what they will be interested in, what they will find amusing or meaningful.  How on earth do you know what to write to complete strangers?

I was afraid that anything I wrote and published would be ignored or criticised.  I enjoyed writing, I didn’t particularly want to invite a dish load of negative feedback.  That was the last thing I needed.

So…to say the least I did not have very high expectations of blogging!

Another friend with whom I had shared a selection of short stories and my one poem encouraged me to publish these.  My friend was already publishing their work online and helped me to set up a WordPress site. According to WordPress we published my first post River on the 19th April 2018, which means it is just over three months I guess.  If you have not had chance to glance at River yet, please have an ickle look – it is a poem I wrote as a teenager and I am very fond of it.

I must admit, I have been enjoying it far more than I ever dreamed I would.  I have looked at hundreds of other blog-sites which have given me ideas about formatting and has encouraged me to experiment a bit with WordPress options.

Well, three months later, I can say that blogging has exceeded all of my expectations.  I am really enjoying this.  I am glad to say I have had lovely feedback and more support and encouragement than I ever imagined. It is fun to keep in touch with other bloggers. One thing I know I need to do more is to keep looking out for new bloggers to encourage them to enjoy blogging and also to direct them to:

https://wordofthedaychallenge.wordpress.com

https://meetthebloggersblog.wordpress.com/

https://thelittlemermaid09.wordpress.com/2018/07/01/tea-party/

…and to keep promoting the  word and picture prompts that other bloggers have set up. These are at the center of a lovely blogging community which was gutted to lose the Daily Post provisions but determined to keep going because we are enjoying this.

It seems likely that I am going to keep going with this blogging business for a bit longer while my circumstances allow it. It is helping me on a personal level…I try to have lots of lighthearted posts but also I have used some to talk about some very difficult subjects for me…and it really has helped.

Advice

  • Supporprima donnat other bloggers.  Don’t be a prima donna…be part of the chorus.
  • Make the most of the avenues to connect with other bloggers (some of which I mentioned above) other bloggers will be looking out for new bloggers, friendly bloggers, fun bloggers…it’s a bit like a party with a bunch of complete strangers interacting.
  • Be friendly!  Just like at the party mentioned. Be polite, be nice.  Don’t be critical, just because their work is not your cup of tea.
  • Enjoy it!  Enjoy the writing, enjoy getting to know the different WordPress features and enjoy the contact with other bloggers.
  • Statistics are sometimes encouraging and sometimes discouraging…but your own enjoyment and enthusiasm and effort will motivate you and prompt others to keep coming back because they want to acknowledge your efforts.

My Nominees:

I am pleased to be able to nominate fifteen great bloggers who have supported me and whose blogs are full of exciting posts:

The Britchy One Has Nominated Me For 3.2.1 – Quote Me! “Being You And Only You”

you and only you

Recently, I was nominated by none other than   the britchy one for a challenge, as you can read in her post below:

3.2.1 – Quote Me! “Being You And Only You”

She has a very enticing blogsite – oh she makes me laugh my socks off almost everyday.  Brilliant blogger!

You may be aware I have been living out of a suitcase for a couple of weeks, so this challenge has been lying dormant in my drafts folder, but I found the challenge incredibly enticing right from the start and have been giving it thought and changing the quotes I had settled on many times.

Now…I have not done one of these before…so please be patient with me because I was a bit clueless in all honesty, so it has been lying in my drafts folder while I have been away on holiday until I could do it justice.

To understand what I was supposed to do I went all the way to the Creator of these challenges   A Guy Called Bloke and K9 Doodlepip! who explained it all rather beautifully in his post 321 Quote Me – Who Wants to Play?

ONE THEME: Being You And Only You

TWO QUOTES: So here come my two quotes:

quote.jpg

So…I must admit this quote is not really one I fully subscribe to.  It is an Oscar Wilde quote – it makes me laugh, but nah, it is not me.  However, I do think I have finally understood the importance of having a healthy self-esteem.  It is wise to do what you can to make first your inner person and then your outer person attractive to others, we could even to go so far as to say enticing to others (for every wholesome reason!)

For years, I was overly self-critical.  I have learnt that it is much healthier to be aware of and value your own good points as a foundation to be able to genuinely love others. When I did not like my chubby face, my freaky feet, my wobbly lumps and bumps, the sound of my voice and I thought I looked terrible whatever I was wearing, it made me kind of glum and downcast.  I realized that is no way to live…and no way to love others either.

quote 1

This quote – well, I have no idea who first voiced these words to be honest.  It is another one that I half agree with.  I don’t in any way look for challenges or find them enticing.  I don’t rush headlong into challenges just so that I can learn something and grow – uh no!  But I do appreciate looking back that it was situations that I found challenging that made me realize I had strengths I never imagined.  And yes, I have also picked up on weaknesses that I did feel I needed to change.

I have had two major challenges in my life – one I am still in the middle of.  I love the mantra LET CHALLENGES MAKE YOU BETTER, NOT BITTER.

Hope these blogging challenges are making me a better blogger!!!

And finally

THREE NOMINEES:

The From The Heart Award

If you are an avid follower of posts from The Haunted Wordsmith you may have noticed her creation of two new blogging awards.  This is the post in which she explains the purpose of these two fantastic new ways to support and encourage other bloggers.

https://thehauntedwordsmith.wordpress.com/2018/06/24/creative-mind-and-from-the-heart-awards/

I am privileged to receive one of the first nominations for the FROM YOUR HEART Award.

From the Heart

From the Heart Award

  • This award goes to bloggers who primarily focus on personal writing. These posts are often from the writer to the world at large, or from the writer to the writer themselves and they just allow us access to their mind.

I have loved reading other blogger’s posts.  There are a huge variety of sites out there. There are many that promote a special interest…it is remarkable to see the level of expertise and enthusiasm some bloggers have in their chosen field, whether that be:

GMOs  – Genetic Learning

The wonders of the oceans – Marine Learning

Those blessed with culinary genius – Yum – Tum Bhojana

or those bloggers who are incredibly versatile and write beautifully readable posts about many subjects:

Drlipstickgeek

DR VAMBE’S BLOG

GRACELIFECOLLECTIONS

My own blogging site is more of a personal little tribute to my amazing family and friends who have shaped the person I am today.  I have included some embarrassing little lessons I learnt while growing up.  I have also been referring to a traumatic incident which has turned my life upside down in recent years.  At times, I have put my heart down on the page (which is sometimes terrifying because you have no idea what the response will be!)

These three posts are probably those I am most nervous about because they still touch very raw nerves inside:

In the past I have enjoyed creative writing, but at the moment, my posts are more about relating pages of my life in a story-like fashion.

Well, normally these awards have a few questions so you can get to know more about the writer.  No questions came with the nomination.  So I guess anyone who is curious about who is behind the Crushed Caramel (Learner at love) posts will have to take a glance at the posts already on the site.   May I take the liberty of recommending:

________________

When it comes to writing from the heart, I am sure this does not just mean the emotional, sentimental, weepy – run for the box of tissues – kind of writing.  I would like to think that writing from the heart is more about revealing who you are on the inside for all to see.  I found a quote about what the figurative heart really means:

“…the central part in general, the inside, and so for the interior man as manifesting himself in all his various activities, in his desires, affections, emotions, passions, purposes, his thoughts, perceptions, imaginations, his wisdom, knowledge, skill, his beliefs and his reasonings, his memory and his consciousness.”

Thinking of who I would like to nominate, I am recalling posts I have read from other bloggers which really touched my heart when I read them,

I am nominating these three bloggers for the illustrious FROM THE HEART AWARD because they have revealed their heart in a way that would definitely touch their reader’s heart.

Cloud and Sunshine

The Storyteller’s Coven

Atara’s Ideas

So although, this award does not yet include any questions, I would love you to create a post where as well as nominating your own choice of bloggers who write FROM THE HEART, could you also tell us which is your own favourite post from your own site, or the post that tells us the most about who you are on the inside.

Thank you for your very beautiful heartfelt writing.

love heart

The Sparkling Indishe Has Nominated Me For Another Sunshine Blogger Award

5188623E-B78C-417D-A0EA-BD462BF287A4

I have been nominated for The Sunshine Blogger Award by theindieshe as you can see from her brilliant post below:

https://indishe.wordpress.com/2018/06/21/the-sunshine-blogger-award/

Please check out her blog, I am sure you will love her posts as much as I do.

These are loosely the rules of the Sunshine Blogger Award:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you.
  • Use the “Sunshine Blogger Award” logo on your post.
  • Answer the questions the selector asks of you.
  • Nominate bloggers you want to give the award to.
  • Ask the following bloggers that you selected questions of your own.

My responses to the questions asked by her are:

1. What is your secret desire?

Hee hee…

I have many desires.  I would need a whole book to list all of them.  But this is one that I often fantasize about!

I am not very good with dairy.  Milk, cream, cheese, yogurt, ice-cream…these cause calamitous side-effects in me.  Although I love cheese…I can have a tiny bit once in a blue moon and I seem to be able to get away with it.

This might not seem a very exciting secret desire, but anyone who has difficulties with dairy – they truly knows what I mean.

So my secret desire is a huge dairy-feast without the concequences!!!

2. What would you like to be in the next birth?

I am not sure I would ever like to have to go through birth again.  Either myself being born or having to give birth!  I congratulate myself that I graduated from nappies or diapers.  I survived puberty.  I am glad that is all out of the way.

brain universeLife as a human should obviously be very special. The awareness and potential we have is far greater than any other creature on the planet.  Much as I am fascinated by animals and plants, and there is so much to learn from other creatures, it is clear that humans are very different.

Our ability to reason, weigh up matters of justice and morality, appreciate art and music, design and create, ponder and meditate and ask questions like “How did life begin?  Why am I here?  Where am I going?”  are exceptional.  I would never downplay how special it is to be a human with enormous potential.  Sadly, we also have the potential to cause harm to ourselves and others (it is painful to see how many seem to do exactly that).  But we have to make choices and live with the consequences.

I have heard it said that of all the discoveries scientists have made in the known universe, there is nothing that can compare with the human brain.  I know some people do not seem to use their brains!  However, the potential we have is incredible.  Our capacity for compassion and unselfish love are unlimited.  However, it all depends on how we feed our own thinking and what we allow to develop.  Thoughts develop into feelings which lead to words and actions, some of which become habits or practices.  I wish people would care for their thoughts more and make their minds as spectacular and delightful as they were designed to be.

bearsIf I was not a human…hmm.  I have to admit, there are occasions when, I would love to hibernate for the whole of winter.  I believe that is what bears do.  Plus, if I were a bear, I would never have to worry about what to wear in the morning, because I would have a beautiful coat of fur.  I would be allowed to eat as much as I wanted and be big and cuddly and that would be fine.  I am not sure I would get on very well being a vegetarian bear.  However, I am a human, I am never going to be a bear, so I will not worry myself too much about that.

3.What one thing would you like to change?

Ambulance

I guess we all have regrets.  There may be major or minor events in our lives we wish never happened. Sometimes we realize we just made the wrong decision, and now faced with the consequences we may long to be able to turn back time and change that pivotal moment.

For myself, it has to be the night I was buckling under the emotional pressure of having been taunted by ex-flatmate and his fans and friends.  I was out with friends, but I didn’t feel as if I could go home because I kept on seeing him.  Just before I had left my flat that night I saw him in the elevator.  Instead of going straight home when I left my friends, I went to a park on my own to let myself have a good cry.  Hours later as the morning broke, a security guard found me and called for an ambulance.  The crime that occurred that night…well, it has turned my life upside down.

Three years later I am still longing to go home to my flat, with all my furniture and to be back where I belong.  But that is it… it happened.  I can’t change it.  A temporary blip in my otherwise satisfying life.  But I am not going to allow it to prevent me from living a life full of work, joy and helping others.

But if it were in my power, there is an event I think I would like to change.

adam and eve

There is a decision that I guess was the worst in all human history.  The consequences have meant pain and sorrow.  Countless injustices and crimes. Disease, abuse, war and many other horrific crimes.   Humans living out of harmony with what we were designed for.  Sure I would love to go back in time and stop them.  However, it was their decision to make.

Talk about a disappointment!  However, I have no doubt that it is a temporary blip.  I am convinced that this beautiful human family and this beautiful planet can be restored and healed.  All of the damage undone.  They made their decision, but it will not prevent this earth from being filled with happy and healthy humans.  Hey if I am determined to achieve my goals despite the obstacle I face…HOW MUCH MORE SO THE ONE WHO HARNESSED VAST AMOUNTS OF NUCLEAR ENERGY INTO STARS???  Hello!!!  I have no doubt, we will look back at this shameful period in history and think “did that really happen?”

It happened… we can’t change that it happened.  But one day it will fade into a distant memory.  All the pain will be forgotten.

My questions to my nominees are:

  • I was thinking of inviting you over for a cheese and wine night (soft drinks available for those who do not indulge)…Do you have a favourite type of cheese?
  • Did you wear a school uniform?  What was it like?
  • What’s your most embarrassing typo on your own blog posts?
  • Do you like weddings?  Why? (Or Why Not?)
  • Describe your perfect shoe / footwear?
  • Do you like “abstract” art?  Could you please explain it to me?
  • If you owned a shop, what would you be selling?
  • Do you have a favourite ice-cream?
  • Do you have any former school friends who are famous?
  • If you were going to dance at a special occasion, what would be the song that would make you want to get up and start dancing?
  • If you were being a tourist for a day in London – where would you like to visit?

My nominees are:

isaiah46ministries

Makafui

Josephine M

Lica Ramos

juantetcts

Well…I hope you enjoy the award and the questions I have asked you.  As a little inspitation for the sunshine blogger award, these are two great sunshine songs to light up your day.
