That Song You Wouldn’t Sing

Jim Adams aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: AUSTRALIAN MUSIC

My mother’s family are Australian…and of course gorgeous Goldfinch is Australian, so this week’s theme made me smile. I was so tempted to feature Kylie Minogue…and Jason Donavon…but I have taken a slightly different direction.

The lady who introduced this song to me is called…Jo Whiley. Many of you will recognize her as one of the big names of radio. I first heard of Jo Whiley when I was a teenager, and I thought what she did in the music industry sounded amazing. I wanted to do what she did. However, at an early age I was put off by the behaviour I saw in the music industry, and the bass player of a band assumed I was of legal age…when I actually was only fourteen…well, that was the night I decided I did not want to work with scumbags!

Anyway, back to Jo Whiley. I was driving my sister’s car one evening and I turned on the radio, and there was Jo’s dulcet tones recommending the song I have chosen for today. These two twin sisters Lisa and Jessica Origliasso are better known as The Veronicas. The first time I heard this song fell in love with it. It captured my mood at the time. (Those were the dark days when Jack was being super-weird with me and I cold not escape him wherever I went.)

This song is called “You Ruin Me”. I love the video, I love their drama of the music, I love their voices….it is such a great track. Oh, did I mention they are Australian?

Job well done
Standing ovation
Yeah you got what you wanted
I guess you won
And I don't want to hear, they don't know you like I do
Even I could've told you
But now we're done

'Cause you play me like a symphony
Play me till your fingers bleed
I'm your greatest masterpiece
You ruin me
Later when the curtains drawn
And no one's there for you back home
Don't cry to me, you played me wrong
You ruin me

I know you thought
That I wouldn't notice
You were acting so strange
I'm not that dumb
And in the end I hope she was worth it
I don't care if you loved me, you make me numb

'Cause you play me like a symphony
Play me till your fingers bleed
I'm your greatest masterpiece
You ruin me
Later when the curtains drawn
And no one's there for you back home
Don't cry to me, you played me wrong
You ruin me

We're that song you wouldn't sing
Just a broken melody
You're killing me

You play me like a symphony
Play me till your fingers bleed
I'm your greatest masterpiece
You ruin me
Later when the curtains drawn
And no one's there for you back home
Don't cry to me you played me wrong
You ruin me
