There Were Nights Of Endless Pleasure

Something tells me that there is always going to be a place for overdramatic power ballads in the music industry and today I intend to celebrate one of them.

My song choice for today’s theme is inspired by one special lady – Dame Deborah James. If you have seen the video…goodness, I am still choked up every time I see it…you will understand why I cannot miss the chance to share the lady who has filled us all with awe this year (and for the past few years with the “You Me And The Big C” podcast).

The song itself…apparently Meatloaf was after it for a long time but the writer Jim Steinman always felt it was a woman’s song. I understand he was inspired by “Wuthering Heights” – which is one of those books which make me very concerned about the Bronte sisters.

Although there are a few who don’t seem to get on with Celene Dion’s sensational vocals, I think most of us are blown away by what she can do. This is quite the overdramatic power ballad and there is always going to be a place for over the top power ballads in the music industry.

But as I mentioned earlier – it is my song choice today because Dame Deborah James has added even more emotion to this song that it already had.
