Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: SONGS WITH NONSENSE LYRICS

Oh….I think we might all pick the same songs. Maybe…we will see hey! I was torn between two songs, but eventually chose the Dixie Cups with “Iko Iko”, because I really have no idea what they are going on about!Apparently the song was originally called “Jock-A-Mo”, although apparently that was a mistake, and it should have been “Cock-A-Mo”. Yeah…something very odd about this situation!
But it is a great track – even if it does not make any sense!!
My grandma and your grandma Were sittin' by the fire My grandma told your grandma "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now) Hey now (hey now) Iko, Iko, an day (oh) Jocomo fee no an dan day Jocomo fee nan nay Look at my king All dressed in red Iko, Iko, an day I betcha five dollars He'll kill you dead Jocomo fee nan nay Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now) Hey now (hey now) Iko, Iko, an day (oh) Jocomo fee no an dan day Jocomo fee nan nay My flag boy and your flag boy Sittin' by the fire My flagboy told your flagboy "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" Talkin' 'bout Hey now (hey now) Hey now (hey now) Iko, Iko, an day (oh) Jocomo fee no an dan day Jocomo fee nan nay (Oh... yes) See that guy all dressed in green? It’s a great song along song isn’t it even if it makes no sense 😊

Dr. John did a great version of this. I almost used this, and am glad someone did…

Great choice Mel and I have always liked this song. The song’s origins are steeped in mystery and it has evolved into a gumbo of regional and ethnic backgrounds that represents New Orleans. It is thought that Jockomo means ‘brother John’, or ‘jokester’, and ‘Jockomo feeno ah na nay’ might mean ‘kiss my ass’, or ‘John is dead’. The word Iko means ‘I go’, or ‘pay attention’, or ‘gold’, or ‘hiking around’, and it stems from French, or Yoruba or Italian.
