My New Neighbours

It’s been a busy weekend – so here is another post from the archives!

There is a nest within the camellia bush that is just above my bathroom window. I have been hearing tiny little cheep cheeps, tweet tweets from it. I don’t want to disturb the nest in any way, but I would love to know what kind of little bird has moved into the camellia.

Last night when I came home after midnight, I realized there was no tweeting. I guesses it was because the little chicks were fast asleep. I would like to imagine their parents have them kept warm under their wings. It made me start wondering if little birds need the same kind of sleep that we do? I slept like a little baby last night. The night before I had the strangest dream about Goldfinch (save that for another post) and the night before that I was awake worrying about my family member with cancer.

Anyway…I am very pleased to have some new birdie neighbours I have to admit šŸ™‚

Can’t talk about cheep cheeps and tweet tweets without thinking of this:

  1. They’re most probably tits because they’re early breeders and can breed pretty much anywhere. There was a news story a while ago about tits breeding in a post box. If you want to see them, just be patient and watch from a respectful distance, they’ll flit in and out many times during daylight hours with one bird watching the nest while the other goes foraging – then when the forager comes back the other one will go out to forage.

Thought you might like this – we have goldfinches nesting in our garden in the “bird bush” (a giant thorny hedge where all the local birds seem to want to nest – it’s like a bird apartment complex) this year. They’re pretty, tiny, slim birds. Very active and also rather fierce for such pretty tiny slim birds.

Have you put out a bird feeder… they’re great fun to watch and they’re very valued by local birds, especially those in breeding mode. They adore fat balls.

    1. Thank you so much Ursula!

We have a feeder which I top up with nuts – we see a lot of robins, blue-tits and other birds in the garden, oh and there are always blackbirds too.

The nest in the camellia bush is right next to one of the gates I have to pass through every time I come in and out. I have been trying to make sure I am quiet as I don’t want to disturb them.

I have a special partiality to Goldfinches – especially the 6 foot 1 variety bred in Australia.
