You Only Know You Love Him When You Let Him Go

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: BREAKUP SONGS

Love, Sadness, Divorce, Woman, Sad, God

What a great theme! Absolutely spoilt for choice this week aren’t we! It took me a long time to decide on a song, but in the end I have chosen one that registers with Jack perhaps more than me. The song is called “Let Her Go” and was originally from Passenger. It is an amazing track that pulls on the heart strings.

However, I have chosen a recording from Birdy as part of her BBC Live Lounge set. Birdy is going to be performing in Kentish Town (all going well with the old Pandemicaroo!) and Jack has nabbed us some tickets! He is such a good boy! I love her music so I am excited at the chance to see her play live.

Here is a taster of a live performance from her, covering Passenger’s track but she sings “Let Him Go”. I just love it! I hope never to experience another breakup for the rest of my life….but I still love breakup songs. I loved Birdy’s emotive voice in this cover of an iconic breakup anthem.

Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you’ll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast

You see him as you close your eyes
Maybe one day you’ll understand why
Everything you touch oh it dies

You only need the light when it’s burning low
You only need the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love him when you let him go

Staring at the ceiling in the dark
Same old empty feeling in your heart
‘Cause love comes slow and it goes so fast

And you see him as you fall asleep
Never to touch, never to keep
‘Cause you loved him too much
But you dived too deep

And you only need the light when it’s burning low
You only need the sun when it starts to snow
You only know you love him when you let him go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
You only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
You only know you love him when you let him go

And you let him go
And you let him go
And you let him go
And you let him go

You only need the light when it’s burning low
You only need the sun when it starts to snow
You only know you love him when you let him go

Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low
You only hate the road when you’re missin’ home
You only know you love him when you let him go

And you let him go
