Cherry Pie, You’re Not As Cute As Me

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme:  Apple/Banana/Cherry/Olive/Orange/Strawberry

I think I may need to explain my choice for today. It is not for the faint hearted. If you are anywhere near my age (or a little older) you may have been a fan of Take That. You may have had a crush on (or been in love with) one of the boys.

My own personal connection with Take That – well, I was a later converter. I resisted them for a long time and then I saw one of their videos (Pray) and was totally hooked. Then when Robbie Williams left Take That (equivalent to the end of the world), the record company I was working for received sacks of fan mail for him.

However I have to say, I was horrified when I saw the video for Take That’s debut single. It is horrendously cringeworthy! I need to prepare you for some weirdness with jelly (jello) and men dancing in leather jackets (with fringes and studs), Doc Martins and cropped lycra leggings. Not to mention Gary Barlow with peroxide blonde hair.

Seeing the video for their debut single – it is hard to understand how these boys became the biggest heartthrobs since The Beatles. But they did! Even I fell for them!

Sugar sweet, if only they all knew
Jam, can’t spread no more you’ve took my bread
Energy, just work, no rest or play
Me, myself I’d rather be alone again

[CHORUS:]
So you can do what you like -Do what you like
No need to ask me -Do what you want
Do what you like -Do what you like
No need to tell me -Do what you want

Cherry pie, you’re not as cute as me
Ice, could never be as cold as you
Recipe, you stir me up inside
Me, myself I’d rather be alone again
