Gather Me And Give Me Some Affection

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: ACQUIRE/COLLECT/GATHER/SECURE

Food, Foodie, Food Styling, Blog, DesignJack and I are doing the whole leisurely Sunday morning thing before we start working on a training program he has been assigned to put together. I think we make a good team after all the support he gave me during THE BAKE-OFF!

Last week, I featured a Britpop anthem that lots of people instantly recognise. But this week I have chosen a lesser known song by a band that were super popular during the Britpop era. The band are Sleeper. They had a great track called Sale of The Century, that I almost chose, as I suppose it is about acquisitions. But instead, I have selected another track named Romeo Me.

I loved Louise Wener’s voice – I have been singing “Romeo Me” to Jack since I listened this song again ❤ This is not really a song about romance. It is more a song about needing something or someone to care about. A sense of purpose perhaps. That’s not the most romantic reason for a relationship, but I have known many who just can’t bear to be alone. They need someone to live for. I get that. I do. It’s a sentiment that Louise Wener captures so well! Even more interesting…for us writers anyway…did you know Louise Wener is now a novelist!! One of her books is down at the bottom of this post 🙂

I don’t need you
It’s just that I need something I can care about
To pick me up and wash me down and wear me out
If I want you It’s just that I need something I can’t do without
To lift me up and let me down
And lay me out to gather me and give some affection

Romeo and Juliet, Marilyn Monroe
Anthony Cleopatra, Joe Di Maggio
You can say what you like
But I don’t think it’s so you
You go straight through my heart, little one

I don’t want you
It’s just that I need something I can’t live without
To tear me up and break me down and bare me out
If I want you I recognize a need in me
I can’t disguise a brittle thing
That kicks me like a broken knife
That gathers me and gives me a reflection

Romeo and Juliet, Marilyn Monroe
Anthony Cleopatra, Joe Di Maggio
You can say what you like
But I don’t think it’s so you go straight
To my heart little one

Romeo and Juliet, Marilyn Monroe
Anthony Cleopatra, Joe Di Maggio
Romeo me come see me I know what you are
Possession is ninety nine tenths of it all
I just need something I can really care about

I just need something I can really care about
I just need something I can really care about
I just need something I can really care about
