These Rocks Don’t Lose Their Shape

Diamond, Gem, Refraction, FacetsI am going to start my post by saying that somewhere along the line, I picked up on the fact that qualities like love, joy, peace, endurance, kindness, humility, patience and others are of far more value than silver, gold or precious jewels.

Since then I have realized that having a little bit of money is a useful tool to have. But having lots in a material sense can make it more difficult to develop the qualities of the heart that make people shine like precious gemstones.

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: DIAMOND/EMERALD/JADE/PEARL/RUBY/SAPPHIRE

For me the choice was between a James Bond anthem or a blonde bombshell in her element. Well, I have never liked what James Bond represents – the skunk! So although a lot of Bond anthems are super, I’d rather cast some shade on the idea of a man who goes through more women than tea bags. I have chosen instead a song that I have performed on stage a few times.

Burlesque, Dita Von TeeseBeing a blonde bombshell myself 😉 I must admit, I don’t actually agree with the sentiments of this song – but it is all fun! When I first saw the lyrics to this song as a teenager I laughed. It was so much fun to perform on stage. It was at charity shows that I got to recreate the famous scene from the movie “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes“.

Now I am going to grumble about something…if you type in “blonde” into search engines, half of the images seem to be provocative. That kind of annoys me. Anyway…grumble over.

Two videos below, the first with Marilyn’s performance, the second with the dancers before the song starts. Take your pick – enjoy! Marilyn teaches us “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend!” (but Caramel can confirm they are not!)

The French are glad to die for love
They delight in fighting duels
But I prefer a man who lives
And gives expensive jewels

A kiss on the hand
May be quite continental
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend
A kiss may be grand
But it won’t pay the rental
On your humble flat
Or help you at the automat

Men grow cold
As girls grow old
And we all lose our charm in the end
But square cut or pear shape
These rocks don’t lose their shape
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

There may come a time
When a lass needs a lawyer
But diamonds are a girl’s best friend
There may come a time
When a hardboiled employer
Thinks you’re awful nice
But get that ice or else “no dice!”

He’s your guy when stocks are high
But beware when they start to descend
It’s then that those louses
Go back to their spouses!
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

Romance is divine
And I’m not one to knock it
Oh but diamonds are a girl’s best friend
Romance is divine
Yeah, but where can you hock it?
When the flame is gone
You just try and pawn a tired Don Juan!

Time rolls on
And youth is gone
And you can’t straighten up when you bend
But stiff back or stiff knees
You stand straight at Tiff’ney’s
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend
