Babe, I’m Back Again

cuteYayy!!! We are celebrating all things cute and sweet today. Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: BABE/CUTIE/DOLL/HONEY/SWEETIE

The song I have chosen today you is a song that I loved way back in the day! When I was a young lass. I was a very late convert to liking the extremely popular boy band Take That. But I believe it was when I watch the video to their track “Pray” and saw the boys rather scantily clad that puberty kicked in and my hormones turned me into an enthusiastic fan.

ttI guess it’s a fairly normal part of a teenager’s life to fall in love with one particular member of a boy band. My crush was on Mark Owen. (He is the one on the right of the picture.) So I was very excited when Mark Owen was providing the main vocals (normally it was Robbie or Gary) on one of their tracks.

Even more exciting was the video. It seems to tell the story of Mark Owen coming back from war to find his beloved. But if you skip to 3:20 in the video, you will discover another surprise waiting for him.

As I young girl, I cried tears every time I heard this song. Like most Take That songs, it was played a lot on the radio. Aaaah, hearing this song brings back lots of memories! I have not written much about Jammy, my first boyfriend. But he looked like Mark Owen.

I come to your door to see you again,
But where you once stood was an old man instead
I asked where you’d be, he said “she’s moved, on you see
All I have is a number you’d better ask her not me”
So I picked up the phone and dialled your number
Not sure to put it down or speak
Then I voice I once knew answered in a sweet voice
She said hello then paused before I began to speakBabe I’m here again, I tell you I’m here again
Where have you been?
Babe, I’m back again, I tell you I’m back again
Where have you been? You held your voice well, there were tears I could tell
But where were you now? Was you gonna tell me in time?
Just give me a town and I’ll be straight down
Got so much to tell you about where I have been
As I walk down your road, can’t wait to be near you
Can’t keep the feeling in inside
As I stand at your door you answered in a sweet voice
You said hello then pause before I begin to speak

Babe I’m here again, I tell you I’m here again
Where have you been?
Babe, I’m back again, I tell you I’m back again
Where have you been?

Just as I looked away, I saw a face behind you
A little boy stood at your door
And as I looked again I saw his face was shining
He had my eyes, he had my smile

Babe I’m here again, I tell you I’m here again
Where have you been?
Babe, I’m back again, I tell you I’m back again
Where have you been?

    1. I think I only started liking them about a year or so before Robbie left.
By which stage, I had a little job at a Manchester record company. We ended up looking after Robbie Williams fan mail. I was shocked to see what some girls had written. It kind of put me off the whole idea of fandom.
Still, it’s nice to think back and remember how much fun many of their tracks were.

    1. The covered one of The Bee Gees songs “How Deep Is Your Love”.
They were one of the biggest boy bands here in the UK in the 1990s. Their fanbase was huge here. Lots of screaming girls!
