Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: DRIFTER/LONER/VAGABOND
Sometimes a song comes straight to my mind when I see the SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY theme, and I tell myself everyone will have thought of exactly the same song. So I try to pick a different song. And then nobody else picks the original song I thought of. I have had the same dilemma today. The song I am featuring, I suspect we all thought of straight away. How many of us will end up choosing it as our SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY post? Well, we will have to wait and see!
I did have another song up my sleeve – but it is kind of a weird song. I do not know what you will make of it. Might be a bit too niche for SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY. So I have gone for the classic, inspirational, heart rending, delightful and dulcet tones of the wonderful Audrey Hepburn, singing the gorgeous “Moon River”. Deep sigh!
Next time I am with him…you know who…I shall ask if we can watch “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” together soon – that would make a great date night! It’s nice dating someone you used to live with. It’s so weird that I used to clean up after him, wash his dishes, pick his underpants up off the floor…and now here we are together, “dating”.
Listening to the lyrics of “Moon River”, I thought about him and I…off to see the world, there’s such a lot of world to see!
Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after the same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me
Moon river, wider than a mile
I’m crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you’re going, I’m going your way
Two drifters, off to see the world
There’s such a lot of world to see
We’re after that same rainbow’s end, waiting, round the bend
My Huckleberry Friend, Moon River, and me
Lyrics written by: Johnny Mercer
Music composed by: Henry Mancini
This song works for me.

I agree in that I always feel I’m choosing something really obvious. But it is only ever obvious to me, my “obvious” choices (yes, I was greedy this week) are totally different – very few bands are universally popular. I guess that’s because we all grew up immersed in different music.
I’ve heard many versions of your song and the film version is probably my second-favourite. She’s right up there because there is a softness, maybe a vulnerability?. a bit of “human”? in her voice. My favourite, I shall keep up my sleeve for a future post.

My parents’ song. Probably the song for a lot of people in their generation.
