Monkeys And Rabbits Loop The Loop

animals.jpgJim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: ANIMALS. In case we were hesitant on this theme, he gave us a long list of examples of animals, including monkeys and rabbits, which instantly brought to mind a certain song!

I have been a vegetarian since I was six years old, and when I started singing this song my friends thought it was amusing. I insisted that it is animal shaped crackers, not animals that are being eaten in this song.

I think it is cute! Shirley Temple is the cutest! The night before a special occasion, my mum used to wrap up my golden, but very straight, tresses in rolls of toilet paper in an effort to produce Shirley Temple locks. My sisters and I would be picking out little pieces of toilet paper out of each other’s hair all of the next day! I have not seen many of the productions featuring Shirley Temple, but I love her for this song!

My tip is to try not to listen to it too many times because it could become slightly annoying. But if you don’t think it is cute, I don’t know, you must be from the dark side of the moon or something!

Animal crackers in my soup
Monkeys and rabbits loop the loop
Gosh oh gee but I have fun
Swallowing animals one by one

In every bowl of soup I see
Lions and Tigers watching me
I make ’em jump right through a hoop
Those animal crackers in my soup

When I get hold of the big bad wolf
I just push him under to drown
Then I bite him in a million bits
And I gobble him right down

When their inside me where it’s dark
I walk around like Noah’s Arc
I stuff my tummy like a goop
With animal crackers in my soup

Animal crackers in my soup
Do funny things to me
They make me think my neighbourhood
Is a big menagerie

For instance there’s our Janitor
His name is Mr Klein
And when he Hollers at us kids
He reminds me of a Lion

The Grocer is so big and fat
He has a big moustache
He looks just like a Walrus
Just before he takes a splash

  1. I like this song a lot, and find myself trying to sing it off and on sometimes. Shirley Temple was such a cutie! It must have been a trend to get kids hair to look like hers back in the day. My mom gave me actual permanents for my totally straight hair. haha! 🙂
