We Lose Ourselves At Night

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme: CARDS/DICE/GAMBLE/LOSE/WIN. Which song won the chance to be my choice for SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY?

No…I did not choose anything by ABBA or Queen…I was thinking more out of the box for this theme:

d7a29-sexy-coupleThe song I have picked for today’s theme is perhaps not the most obvious choice. It does contain the word “lose”, so technically it qualifies. It is not so much about a game, but rather, the challenges of maintaining a relationship. I think many have had a taste of being in a relationship where love has no doubt been there, but there are strains. A relationship where the person you love brings out the best of you, but sadly, sometimes it brings out the worse in you.

strainedEspecially in our younger years, we have a lot to learn about relationships, and sometimes just a lot to learn about ourselves and controlling our emotions. When you first start to feel intense emotions for someone and feel what you can only identify as love, you can also find other more negative intense emotions can be lurking around the corner waiting to bight you – hurt, jealousy, anger, frustration, disappointment. I think that is kind of what this song describes. The ups and downs in a relationship. Will a couple overcome challenges and forge an enduring bond? Well…some win, some lose. It can sometimes feel like a gamble. But there are many who succeed and normally it is those who have learnt to control negative feelings and cultivate unselfish love for one another.

not speakingI have chosen this song…well, simply because I love it. I love the beat. I remember listening to it when I was first encountering intense emotions with Jack. He had just told me he loved me. Yet it did not feel that way. I was really confused. I thought I could love him, but I did not trust him. I knew we had the potential to be something spectacular, but we didn’t seem to be able to interact without causing some pain to each other. There was love, hurt, confusion…and this song seemed to capture so much of the intense situation I had with him.

You and I, bloodlines
We come together every time
Two wrongs, no rights
We lose ourselves at nightAnd from the outside, from the outside
Everyone must be wondering why we try
Why do we try?

Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all
Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Maybe in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all

Oo-ooh. Oo-ooh

Rain on, a thunder sky
Wherever there’s smoke, there’ll soon be fire
What could bring bad luck,
I’ve been looking at you too much

And from the outside, from the outside
Everyone must be wondering why we try
Why do we try?

Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Maybe in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all
Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Maybe in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all

In the middle of it
We walk, we walk the line
Looking back I miss it
Our wildest moments
Are you thinking what if
What if we ruined it all?
My wrecking ball

And from the outside, from the outside
Everyone must be wondering why we try
Why do we try?

Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Maybe in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all
Baby, in our wildest moments
We could be the greatest, we could be the greatest
Maybe in our wildest moments
We could be the worst of all

  1. Not familiar with this song, but WOW! I really like it! Great driving beat and those lyrics are so bittersweet. Nice choice! 👍😉
