Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen a theme that I am sure will be great fun: COOL/GROOVY/HIP/NIFTY/RADICAL/SWELL
I almost forgot this week’s SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY. For some reason I have already chosen my songs for the next few weeks, but missed today’s theme. Well…I can’t wait to see the songs everyone chooses!
This was the song the came to my mind! I love it! I especially love that line: “I gotta find a new place where the kids are hip“.
And I do believe that the very first time I heard this song was during the opening credits to a certain film starring John Travolta and Kirsty Alley, many moons ago. That certainly was like a human biology lesson.
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
I’m gettin’ bugged driving up and down this same old strip
I gotta find a new place where the kids are hip
My buddies and me are getting real well known
Yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Get around round round oooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
Wah wa ooo
We always take my car cause it’s never been beat
And we’ve never missed yet with the girls we meet
None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn’t be right
To leave their best girl home on a Saturday night
I get around
Get around round round I get around
From town to town
Get around round round I get around
I’m a real cool head
Get around round round I get around
I’m makin’ real good bread
Get around round round I get around
I get around
Round
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah
Round round get around
I get around
Yeah
Get around round round I get around
Get around round round I get around
Wah wa ooo
Get around round round I get around
Oooo ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
Get around round round I get around
Ahh ooo ooo
“None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn’t be right
To leave their best girl home on a Saturday night…”
Well at least they have some principles! (One?) 😉

I always thought that line was odd.
But I love the rest of the song.

I think it was a pretty much tongue-in-cheek line… but also reflecting a part of American teenage surfer culture – Saturday night was for ‘The Boys’, doing what teenage boys like to do most.
I suspect that in these ‘enlightened’ times no-one would have a qualm about going ‘steady’ and then leaving her behind when they go out cruisin’ with the Boys on Saturday. 🤔

I used to have a CD of tracks I had downloaded for long drives and I remember all of us singing that song in the car. Such fun!

If you want hip the Yorkshire is your place. Or maybe not.

We had a couple of family holidays in Scarborough and explored Bridlington, Whitby, Robin Hood Bay etc…where else have we been? (well Barnsley, Sheffield, Leeds of course – I know we went to York, but I was not very well that day and I can’t remember much at all.) I know we went to Nunnington Hall (National Trust) on a very rainy day and enjoyed it very much – especially the cream tea at the end.
Groovy/Hip/Radical/Nifty are not the first words that come to mind when I think of Yorkshire – however it is literally cool and there are lots of swells – waves, land-masses. I love Yorkshire. So long as I am not in a caravan in a cliff-side park during a storm – that is an experience I don’t want to have again.
