Ambition And Love Wearing Boxing Gloves And Singing Hearts And Flowers

Jim Adams, aka Newepicauthor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme MOM/MOTHER/FLOWERS.

I have chosen a song that I have had stuck in my head all week!!! It was played on the radio at work. I had not heard it for ages. Now I have driven myself nuts singing it over and over!. But you know, I think it’s quite a good track really.

I am not sure what exactly it is about…but you know, I still quite like some of the lyrics even if I don’t have a clear idea of a story in them. There are a lot of songs out there with lyrics that don’t make complete sense. In all fairness, this song is a mighty fine bit of pop music. And I don’t know a lot about the band Aztec Camera, but from what I can tell, Roddy Frame was the main man behind the band. Don’t quote me on that!

It is not particularly floral…but it mentions flowers twice – which makes it my choice for Jim’s theme this week.

Summer in the city where the air is still
A baby being born to the overkill
Well who cares what people say
We walk down love’s motorway

Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers

But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you’ve got to be
Is true

A star above the city in the northern chill
A baby being born to the overkill
No say, no place to go
A TV, a radio

Ambition and love wearing boxing gloves
And singing hearts and flowers

But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you’ve got to be
Is true

Who could heal
What’s never been as one
And our hearts have been torn
Since the day we were born
Just like anyone

From Westwood to Hollywood
The one thing that’s understood
Is that you can’t buy time
But you can sell your soul
And the closest thing to heaven is to rock and roll

But somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you’ve got to be
Is true

Somewhere in my heart
There is a star that shines for you
Silver splits the blue
Love will see it through
And somewhere in my heart
There is the will to set you free
All you’ve got to be
Is true

  1. I quite enjoyed this song when it first came out! (before you were born??)

Now i’m going to have it in my dreams – am off to bed now – i hope i will not wake up still remembering it, for all that. 😉

  2. NOPE! 😦

Before my eyes were open this morning and before i was fully awake the first thing in my mind was: “…Silver splits the Blue, Love will see it thruuuuuu!…

(Still there 6 hours on – Thanks Mel.)

  3. Today I heard on a quiz show the word ‘Westwood’ – it’s a celebrity cemetary in LA! (Marilyn Monroe is resting there!)

So from ‘A Star (is Born)’ (In Hollywood – a baby being born to the overkill) to the Grave (Westwood) they know you cannot buy time but you certainly can sell your soul (for fame and fortune).

The singer’s love can ‘Set you free’… and all you have to be.. is True (to yourself!)

I think the song is about the fallacy of the Hollywood version of Romance (Ambition and Love with Boxing gloves – you have to fight for what you want) while singing all hearts and flowers (fake)

    Make sense?? 🙂
