You say you want a relationship with me
But I don’t feel your invitation is genuine
If you don’t reveal more of what goes on in your mind
If you don’t open up and share your heart with me
There is a solid wall you have built up
I do not have the power to unlock those gates
Every now and then I have the slightest peak at what you hide
But it is only you who can choose to open yourself to me

This was in repsonse to the picture prompt from Sue Vincent…I wrote it while waiting for my friend to arrive. And now I am heading out to feast on cake and drink copious amounts of tea.

Brilliant poem. Very well interpreted the prompt.

Thank you Sadje – it feels great when you have an idea as soon as you see a prompt. Sometimes my mind is blank. This week I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

I hope the person likes what s/he sees when the gates are opened.

I hope so too.
I guess that’s the risk of being discontent with a surface relationship. Once you try to find out what’s below the surface you may find either more to love, or be disappointed.

My guess is also that the millenials do not bother about looking below the surface. It is so easy for them to disconnect and move on.

Those gates we all possess… Nicely done. Enjoy the cakes and tea 🙂

The gates we keep closed, or open so very slightly, then fear come and we close again. You wrote a beautiful post.
