There Were Bells On A Hill

Jim Adams, aka Newepicautor, the creator of A Unique Title For Me, is hosting SONG-LYRIC-SUNDAY and this week he has chosen the theme HILL/MOUNTAIN, as you can see from his post below:

There is a huge photograph on the wall in the little nest where I reside of The Beatles when they were very young men. I think it is a photo taken in London. I do like it, but it does not belong to me. It belongs to my landlady. Everyone who visits my sweet abode presumes that because I am from Liverpool, it is my choice to put it on the wall. To be honest, I have never been the type to put photos of strangers on my walls, even famous ones – I don’t agree with giving too much glory to humans. I might love their music, but if I learn too much about them, I will probably lose respect for them.

I grew up on the outskirts of Liverpool. Everybody my Dad’s age seemed to have a story about going to see The Beatles play live. I grew up listening to a lot of music from The Beatles. So, although I don’t consider myself an expert on The Beatles, their music is deeply ingrained in me because I heard so much of their music growing up. Even at school they featured in class projects and school plays.

IMG_20180703_141259Every year many tourists still come to Liverpool looking for a taste of The Beatles culture and memorabilia. The Beatles are one of Liverpool’s most famous exports to the rest of the world.

I chose a song today that was covered by The Beatles, but was originally from the Musical “The Music Man” (and if you want to listen to the song from the film, I have included a video at the end of the post).

I have chosen this song for one reason only…it’s really nice to be “in love”. Even now, with my Goldfinch far away, I still find myself in a dreamy state of mind at times. So the sweet lyrics in this song strike a chord with me.

There were bells on a hill
But I never heard them ringing
No, I never heard them at all
Till there was you

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Till there was you

Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows
Of dawn and dew

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you

Then there was music and wonderful roses
They tell me in sweet fragrant meadows
Of dawn and dew

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you
Till there was you
